REPUBLIC OF CHINA silver dollar 1912 Li Yuanhong yuan

REPUBLIC OF CHINA silver dollar 1912 Li Yuanhong yuan realises £5,500 on 11th April 2024

This was a dream find! In a box of coins consigned from a client who had been selling his fathers collections with us, this was plucked from amongst a modest coin collection held in a cigar box. At first, thinking it too good to be true, but after exhaustive research pouring through coin textbooks and online sources, and verifying the size and weight of the coin, an estimate of over £1,000 was placed on the coin before the auction. The auction took 90seconds with 42 bids being placed before the hammer finally being brought down at the grand sum of £5,500! This despite the green verdigris patches and the scratch to the field on the reverse.
